Ir Gary Ko is a distinguished engineering professional with multi-jurisdictional credentials. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Hong Kong, a certified Professor-level Senior Engineer in Mainland China and Chartered Electrical Engineer in the United Kingdom. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master in Professional English, and a Master of Business Administration. He is a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Gary currently serves as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Kum Shing Group, a reputable energy infrastructure specialist uniquely positioned as the only enterprise in Hong  Kong capable of delivering integrated solutions from power generation, transmission, distribution to utilization.

Gary has been a Council Member and Chairman of five different Committees / Panel of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (The HKIE). A recipient of The President’s Award, Gary is instrumental in converting the objective-based professional assessment of admission for corporate member of The HKIE to competence-based protocol in 2019. He currently serves in the Staff Resources Committee and Accreditation Board, focusing on professional engineering education and accreditation of engineering degree and sub-degree courses in meeting the educational standards of The HKIE.

He is also the President of The Hong Kong E&M Contractors’ Association, where he actively engages with government bureaus and departments, Legislative Council members, authorities and stakeholders to advocate for the interests of the industry. Additionally, he has long served as an Honorary Advisor of The Hong Kong & Kowloon Electrical Engineering & Appliances Trade Workers Union, helping to bridge collaboration across different segments of the industry.

He has served in different education institutions including his alma mater, Munsang College, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong and the Vocational Training Council. In the realm of social service, Gary is the Vice Chairman of the Admissions, Budgets and Allocations Committee of The Community Chest.

Beyond his professional and community roles, Gary has also served on various boards, panels and committees of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and was a Member of the Election Committee in 2011 and 2021.
