In the Intercepting Drains at Queen’s Road Central Drainage Project, Kum Shing’s works consisted of constructing approximately 530m of stormwater drains ranging from 900m to 1,500m in diameter along Lok Ku Road and Queen’s Road Central. Meanwhile, 130m of single-cell drainage box culvert, measuring 2.25m wide and 1.25m high along Gilman’s Bazaar, were also be built.

These intercepting drains have the capacity to divert 30% of the water to the sea, thereby preventing further flooding issues in the low-lying areas of Sheung Wan. To minimize disruption to the public, disturbances, and environmental pollutants, around 280m of drains were constructed using trenchless methods.

Prior to the project’s implementation, flooding in the vicinity of Wing Lok Street in Sheung Wan had long been a concern for the Drainage Services Department. During heavy rain, the area frequently experienced water seepage, resulting in significant losses for shop owners. Following Kum Shing team completion of the project in 2008, the risk of flooding in Sheung Wan’s low-lying areas was notably reduced, ensuring the safety and protection of residents and businesses in the region.
