Since February 2024, Kum Shing Process and Plant Team carried out the retrofit of the gas turbine, ensuring the optimal performance of the new gas-fired generation D1 Unit at the Black Point Power Station, and completed the project in May 2024. One of the major challenges was to machine the turbine rotor and replace the turbine blades, which weighed over 170 tons. Our project team had to disassemble various parts from the gas turbine prior removal of the turbine rotor for retrofit. Once the retrofit was completed, the turbine rotor and various turbine parts have been reinstated accordingly. Our project team made precise calculations and deployments ensuring that the progress, quality and construction safety meet the contractual requirements.

It is noteworthy to mention that a professional team of over 80 skilled engineers and workers were mobilized to work tirelessly day and night. Teamwork and competence in heavy lifting were the keys to the project’s success.

This large-scale lifting work is very rare in Hong Kong. The team was able to complete it safely and accurately, which was solely attributed to the rigorous and meticulous planning and preparation.
