Kum Shing built the new Unit D1 Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) at Black Point Power Station. Since its operational commencement in 2020, the proportion of natural gas in the total fuel mix has increased to 50%, thereby reducing carbon emissions.

Our team is responsible for transporting and installing more than 1,200 packages of major components, including the 450-ton Siemens SGT-8000H gas turbine that weighs more than a fully loaded Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet. It was the first CCGT project in China to utilize H-class gas turbine technology.

Another milestone achieved by the team was the placement of Heat Recovery Steam Generator heat surface modules, using three large hoisting cranes to safely lift the huge units into place. Each module is as high as a 10-storey building – the longest component of the entire project – and weighs more than 300 tons.

This large-scale lifting work is very rare in Hong Kong. The team was able to complete it safely and accurately, which was solely attributed to the rigorous and meticulous planning and preparation.
