To cope with the forecast increase in sewage flow in the Sha Tau Kok area as well as future housing developments in Sha Tau Kok Town, a joint venture with Build King was formed to handle this Drainage Services Department project.

The operation leveraged the application of innovative construction technologies . Kum Shing Civil & Building Team adopted Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA) to construct the equalization tank and the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) to expedite the work progress and land usage. The team also constructed a new 1.8km submarine outfall by trenchless land-sea two-way horizontal directional drilling method. BIM was adopted to enhance design and construction coordination for the project amongst the civil and E&M disciplines and helped the project team modify construction sequences and spatial arrangement of the equipment in the work environment. This shortened the duration of troubleshooting during the construction stage and enhanced productivity and sustainable performance.

It is a “Construction 2.0” pilot project. With the adoption of innovations and technologies including digitalization of site management, Building Information Modelling (BIM), off-site construction, various IoT devices, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) with the aim of achieving sustainable construction.
