Shing Mun Tunnels Power System Upgrade Project

Working closely with the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), Kum Shing Electrical & Mechanical Team will demolish and remove the existing HV and LV power supply systems along the Shing Mun Tunnels and provide a completely new power supply system in the SMT buildings. This includes HV switchboards, transformers, LV switchboards, generators, power cables, busducts, signal cables, and all associated accessories and fixings.
One of the challenges our team faces is the need to apply state-of-the-art electrical technology to upgrade the 33-year-old power systems in the tunnels. In this regard, we will be upgrading the protection systems to achieve electronization. Our team is replacing all mechanically-operated protection relays with electronic protection relays, which will reduce manual management resources and enhance the operational efficiency of the tunnels.

Furthermore, our team must effectively coordinate with the government departments and the tunnel operator to ensure that all upgrade and civil works are carried out diligently, without disrupting the daily operations of SMT.
